Perry Noble does it again! - Eight things he thinks every worship leaders should know
Posted by: Rich Kirkpatrick in Leadership, Worship LeadingI Love what Perry Noble says in his latest post about worship…I am quoting the bullets, but you NEED to read the whole thing my fellow worship people. I would love to visit his church or conference some day after reading his blog for a while now. Here are his "Eight Things I Think Every Worship Leader Should Know."
#1 - When you are singing…OPEN YOUR EYES!
#2 - You are not the preacher–SING!
#3 - Surround yourself with talented people.
#4 - Write songs
#5 - Go to concerts
#6 - Read Scripture
#7 - Work in unison with the pastor - (this one deserves a full quote)
Lee
and I are in creative planning sessions every week. He knows the sermon
topic sometimes months in advance and spends time praying over songs
and set lists. After we discuss the message in a creative meeting we
then talk about the music. We don’t do the “I do the message, you do
the music and then we will see what happens.” We are a team!!!#8 - Place God’s dream before your own.

So read his entire post, and let me know what you think. Is he spot on, or what!?

“OPEN YOUR EYES”
haha. I totally agree. (although I’m guilty from time to time as well)
Hey Billy,
I hopefully do not close the eyes too much…how about the soft breathy worship leader voice. Yikes!
I like doing #3, but there is a price to pay if your leaders of the people in the church do not understand that one. Auditions are not fun, and who wants to be Simon Cowell in church–after all, can we really give honest feedback in church to Christians?
Soft and breathy - guilty here. Not everyone has the velvety dulcimer tones of a Kirkpatrick.
I use this trick sometimes to stay on pitch.
Totally agree on the “Surround yourself with talent” although I’d add “Equally engage people who can learn from your talent - mentor, train, and raise up new leaders as well.”
